Goal
To improve electronic access to information and support communities in the development and use of technology.

How does this build community capacity?
Improved electronic access to information, programs and services allows communities to:
  • send and receive information more effectively;
  • receive better services, such as bank access;
  • market local goods and services;
  • access educational and training services more effectively; and
  • communicate and share information with others.
How will this happen?
In co-operation with the NWTAM, private sector organizations, GNWT and federal departments, MACA has established Wire North as a multi-year initiative to assist every NWT community to connect to the Internet.

What kinds of things will Wire North do?
  • Identify funding sources to support community Internet and technology development.
  • Invest in every region to hire regional Wire North coordinators;
  • Identify the equipment, training, software and resources required to link community governments to the Internet;
  • Promote the use of computer technology;
  • Advocate and research affordable and sustainable Internet access solutions;
  • Promote and provide training on the Internet in conjunction with the S of CG.
What kind of short-term results do we want to achieve?
  • Ensure that NWT communities have help in developing access sites;
  • Up to 10 community governments involved in technology demonstration projects; and
  • Develop a strong network of stakeholders across the NWT.
