Goal
To provide assistance to communities so they can make more informed decisions on the design and implementation of governance structures.
How does this build community capacity?
Improved governance structures, designed by communities, will result in:
- reduced duplication of effort and better use of human and financial resources;
- increased focus on managing programs and services for residents;
- smoother transition towards self-government and increased community decision-making;
- a means for communities to identify priorities and make plans to address them; and
- increased ability of the community to focus development efforts on identified needs.

What will this intitiative do?
- Develop improved collaboration with INAC and Aboriginal Affairs;
- Identify communities who are willing to participate in demonstration projects.
- Demonstration initiatives include:
- assistance in facilitating community meetings;
- research and information on what other NWT and Canadian communities are achieving in similar initiatives;
- information on current municipal legislation and proposed changes;
- community input on the role of MACA; and
- assistance in the implementation of Governance Demonstration Projects.
What short-term results do we want to achieve ?
