Goal
To improve systems, supports and resources for department staff in order to maximize their growth and development.

Why does MACA have to build staff capacity?
MACA builds staff capacity to further their vision, to provide improved support to community governments, and to support the growth and development of their staff. To achieve the goals outlined in the various Building Communities Initiatives, fundamental changes are required in MACA's approach to organizational design, job design, and human resource planning and training development. New supports for building staff capacity are also needed. To support development of a labor force that is more representative of the population, increased attention must be paid to aboriginal participation in the Branch. We are in a state of constant change and development in the North. Our staff has to be supported in lifelong learning pursuits. At MACA, we are committed to providing training and development programs as well as services and supports to our staff.

What will MACA do to build staff capacity?
  • Develop an improved organizational design as well as more helpful and focused HR planning and development systems and supports;
  • Develop and maintain a training program for staff development based on competency profiles and career pathing;
  • Identify training gaps and needs;
  • Develop a staff recognition and awards program; and
  • Increase aboriginal participation in the workforce.

What short-term results would we like to achieve?
  • The development of a staff training and development system;
  • Staff will be trained in a number of areas and be better prepared to work in cross-functional teams; and
  • An increase in the aboriginal participation in the workforce by 50%.
  • A better-trained and developed workforce.
